Ear Syringing and Irrigation in Inverness

Looking for ear syringing or irrigation in Inverness? We provide a safer and more precise alternative via Microsuction. This page explains the safer modern alternative and how to book a treatment.

Many people still search for ear syringing or irrigation when they need ear wax removal. Today, Microsuction is the preferred method used across the NHS and in specialist clinics.

If you have blocked ears, reduced hearing, or discomfort, safe and effective ear wax removal is available at Highland Hears Inverness, using modern microsuction techniques.

Symptoms of Ear Wax Build-Up

You may benefit from ear wax removal if you’re experiencing:

  • Muffled or reduced hearing
  • A blocked or full sensation
  • Earache or discomfort
  • Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
  • Dizziness or imbalance

Not sure if it is wax? We check your ears as standard and with HD imaging and video, we can advise on the best course of action.

Do You Offer Ear Syringing or Irrigation?

Ear syringing and irrigation is an older method that involves flushing the ear with water. While still searched for, it is now used less frequently due to:

  • Higher risk of infection or damage to the ear
  • Working without proper vision into the ear which increases risk
  • Less precise than microsuction

At Highland Hears, we do not offer ear syringing or irrigation as we focus exclusively on providing the highest possible safety and care for our patients. We provide microsuction as it is the safest, most controlled treatment and is the gold standard method of ear wax removal.

Microsuction Ear Wax Removal (Our Method)

We provide microsuction only which is widely regarded as the safest and most effective method of ear wax removal.

Why microsuction?

  • No water or flushing involved

Appointments are typically completed within 20–30 minutes.

Prior to your Appointment -   It is essential that prior to your appointment, Earol® or another olive oil based spray is used in BOTH ears, for a minimum of 5 days before your appointment. An olive oil based spray will help soften the wax, making it easier to remove. If wax cannot be removed due to it being too hard or adhering to the ear drum, a further appointment will have to be made, incurring an additional appointment fee. Although we will endeavour to remove as much wax as we can and in the majority of cases this is done successfully, every person is different and we cannot make any guarantees that all wax will be removed in one session.

Cancellations and Missed Appointments

We operate a cancellation policy which covers both missed and short notice cancellations (less than 48 hours notice). This cancellation fee will be the full appointment fee and must be paid within 7 days of the missed appointment.

Appointments booked via our online booking system require a £35 deposit which will be deducted from the total cost following your appointment.  Missed or short notice cancellations (less than 48 hours) of appointments booked online will not be refunded.
